IUPUI students help to meet CEES mission

Here at CEES, we are lucky to have great IUPUI undergraduate and graduate students that assist us in carrying out our mission.  This past Spring Semester, we had 19 driven students!  Here is a short summary of their efforts and some links to their work...

Ms. Patel is a rising senior at Fishers High School, a High Honor Roll student and a Project STEM intern.  This summer, Ms. Patel is researching Combined Sewage Overflows, assisting with community based research and spending some of her time interning with Amber Rollings at CEES.

Researchers from IUPUI investigate drought effects on legumes


CEES researchers (and IUPUI Department of Earth Sciences faculty) Dr. Lixin Wang and Dr. Pierre-Andre Jacinthe and postdoctoral researcher Dr. Stefani Daryanto published a new paper this month, “Global synthesis of drought effects on food legume production,” in the journal PLOS ONE. Wang et al.’s focus on legumes is of particular importance due to these protein rich (and tasty) Fabaceae family members being major players for food security for the developing world as well as gaining popularity from increasing healthy-eating-style dieting trends.

Thanks to a dissemination grant from the IUPUI Center for Service and Learning, researchers Jennifer Nelson, Jessica Davis, and Sarah Goss from IUPUI’s Center for Earth and Environmental Science (CEES) and the Department of Earth Sciences attended the 6th International Symposium on Service Learning (ISSL) at the University of Indianapolis.

Congratulations, Jessica! We are pleased though a bit sad to share that as of June 1st Jessica Davis has stepped down from Assistant Director at CEES to assume a new role as the IUPUI Campus Director of Sustainability.
