Partnership Insight: CEES Service Learning and DPW

CEES and Don Miller and Brenda Howard with Department of Public Works (DPW) - Land Stewardship have had a long standing partnership.  In fact, Don informs, “they’ve never had a longer term partnership with anybody.”  CEES Service Learning currently helps Don and Brenda mainly with the preventative maintenance of prior projects. 

CEES at Bug Fest

Friend of CEES, Jan Lesniak, has volunteered to host a station at this year’s annual Bug Fest focusing on bat education and conservation. Bug Fest is a self-described celebration of bugs taking place at Southeastway Park on August 30 from 1 – 5 p.m.  CEES is happy to help in this endeavor!

Spotlight on CEES Partner: Dr. Brian Plankis

Dr. Brian Plankis, a major contributor to CEES’ educational outreach programs, has made environmental education his life’s work.  Brian was initially impassioned for science by his 7th grade science teacher, Mr. Bill King who taught at Culver Community High School. 

CEES Wishes Congratulations to Elizabeth Johnson

Elizabeth Johnson, previous Education Outreach Coordinator for CEES, is taking on a new endeavor.  Elizabeth has accepted to be a Woodrow Wilson Indiana Teaching Fellow through the University of Indianapolis!  Congratulations to Elizabeth!

Update on Discovering the Science of the Environment in Kenya

For the past year, CEES’ educational outreach team has been working with a total of six schools in both Indianapolis and Eldoret, Kenya (funding appreciably provided by Dow AgroSciences).
