Edge of Field

Education Outreach Highlights for Summer/Fall 2017

It has been a busy time for education outreach at CEES, with more than 7300 people participating this past season. CEES activities have included summer weather camps, expansion of the Center's Discovering the Science of the Environment program, a visit to the state fair, and various other outreach events.

Edge of Field Update

The edge of field project at Starkey Farm survived one of the wettest summers on record. During the months of June and July many samples were taken and brought back to the lab for analysis. Jacob and Danielle became very familiar with the site and were often visiting 4-5 times a week.

Researchers from IUPUI investigate drought effects on legumes

CEES researchers (and IUPUI Department of Earth Sciences faculty) Dr. Lixin Wang and Dr. Pierre-Andre Jacinthe and postdoctoral researcher Dr. Stefani Daryanto published a new paper this month, “Global synthesis of drought effects on food legume production,” in the journal PLOS ONE. Spring 2015 Service Learning

Edge of Field: April Showers Bring Samples!

Danielle Follette, CEES Staff, and Jacob Burch, CEES Undergraduate Intern, have become quite familiar with the agricultural landscape over the past few months as the April showers are providing data for CEES' Edge of Field research project.

Starkey Farms Update

CEES is starting the New Year in a big way! The edge of field (EOF) sampling infrastructure on the west side of School Branch was finished this afternoon. The east side should be finished by Friday. Instruments will be installed as soon as the infrastructure is complete. Our collective thanks to all the many agencies, groups, and individuals that have made this project possible.

School Branch Update

In August we wrote that we were making significant progress on the Starkey Farms Edge of Field sampling, and the School Branch National Water Quality Initiative. Shortly after that post we identified some additional funding needs that slowed our progress.
